At BlackBerry Live this week, CEO Thorsten Heins kicked off the event with the introduction of an affordable, functional phone aimed at the emerging markets. Launching this July via their global carrier partners, the BB10 Blackberry Q5 is specifically designed and built for “selected markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America,” with no word on if it will be eventually releasing in their more traditional consumer bases. The low-cost Q5 will be available in red, black, white, and pink, with a full QWERTY keyboard, a 3.1-inch touchscreen display, and their new BlackBerry 10 operating system. It includes the usual bells-and-whistles of a BlackBerry, including BBM messenger, as well as some other perks like video chat, screen sharing, and their new Hub social app. More specifics, such as its exact specifications and price, are just rumors now, but with its release quickly approaching, we’ll know soon enough.
