Although images of the new Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V were already leaked, Sony has come forward with their official announcement of what they claim will be “the world’s smallest, lightest digital still camera that packs a powerful 30x optical zoom range.” With a far-reaching optical zoom, long-lasting battery (that’s claimed to be able to take 400 shots on a full charge), and a 24mm to 720mm focal range, this is the perfect pocket-ready device, measuring in at a tiny 108 x 63 x 38mm and weighing a mere 272g. Camera pros will also be happy with the dedicated exposure-compensation dial on the top panel, a new Multi-interface hotshoe capable of allowing the use of a wide range of accessories and viewfinders, a 3-inch XtraFine LCD display with 921k-dot resolution, and – something everyone can enjoy – GPS-functionality and Wi-Fi connectivity. The new Cyber-shot HX50V compact digital camera will be available next month for about $450 and you can bet that retailers around the globe won’t be able to hold back demand for too long.
